Judging Procedures
A 3-judge panel of invited experienced show judges will evaluate Intermediate, Advanced and Open Carvings.  A separate 3-judge panel of invited experienced show judges will evaluate Intermediate, Advanced and Open Woodworking Projects.

The Novice and Youth carvings will be individually evaluated for an Award by experienced local carvers or woodworkers selected by the show committee. If time allows an individual evaluation sheet will be completed for each carving at the Novice and Youth levels.

The judges will consider:

  • Originality and Design - Concept and interpretation; effective use of wood grain and type of wood,; applicable habitat/mounting

  • Skilled Execution -Good carving and woodworking technique; clean cuts and joints; difficulty of the project

  • Surface Finish - Choice of finish to enhance the project; quality of application

  • Artistry - Balance; proportion; focal points; rhythm; light and shadow; coordination of elements; overall effect of presentation

For an entry to be eligible for "Best of Show" at the Youth, Novice, Intermediate, Advanced or Open, the entry needs to exemplify originality and creativity in carving and woodworking, painting and finishing skills.

Remember the judges are judging the participants entry not the participant.
