Club Competition

Subject:  Arizona Centennial

Club Competition Rules:

  1. Each wall hanging entry will have carving(s) depicting an event, place or other item(s) significant to Arizona or a region of Arizona.  Participants are encouraged to work with a local historical society, or other appropriate organization, to develop the design and display of their entry.

  2. Each scene piece shall contain some carving.  Pieces may also be enhanced with carved lettering, wood burning and/or painting.

  3. Any wood(s) and finishes may be used.  Child-safe finishes are encouraged.

  4. Each entry must be the work of 5 or more club participants.

  5. Size restrictions:  The total outside dimension of the wall hanging display surface where mounted, must not exceed sixteen (16) square feet or five (5) feet in any linear direction.   For example: It could be 4 ft x 4 ft; 5 ft x 3 ft or any non-rectangular shape.  Overall shape and design is at the discretion of each club.  Entries need not be large as the size of the entry is not a consideration in the judging.

  6. Each entry must have its own easel or support to display the entry vertically or near vertically.

  7. The judging criteria is the same as for other show entries; i.e. originality and design, skilled execution, surface finish and final presentation.

  8. Clubs are encouraged to find sponsors or partners for this woodcarving challenge (such as schools, hospitals, day care centers or nurseries) to accept the finished project after the show in some way, perhaps even as a fund raiser.
