Mesa Centennial Hall, 201 N. Center St., Mesa, AZ (Corner University Dr. & Center St.)
We, as a group of artists and woodcarvers, have organized the Desert Woodcarving Show for the purpose of education, promotion, recognition and acceptance of woodcarving and wood sculpture as an art form. We strive to advance individual talents and knowledge of woodcarving as a hobby and as an art form by promoting public displays and competition of woodcarvings, wood sculptures, and/or other wood art. We sponsor the Desert Woodcarving Show, along with the associated seminars and classes, to educate the public, to help people get started into the art, and to provide an opportunity to exchange ideas to advance the carvers' talents. We particularly try to encourage youth and novice carvers in their efforts. We hope that our promotion of close camaraderie along with the exchange of ideas and techniques will benefit the carving community and the community as a whole.
The Desert Woodcarving Show was originally located in Phoenix. In 2003 the show moved to the great Mesa location: Mesa Centennial Hall at 201 North Center Street. This location is handicap-accessible and has street-level entry for vendors.
The Desert Woodcarving Show is jointly produced by the Grand Canyon State Woodcarvers, Inc. (a 501(c)3 non-profit organization) and the Arizona Woodcarvers Association (a non-profit organization). Anyone with an interest, or possible interest, in woodcarving is welcome at any and all club meetings.
The Grand Canyon State Woodcarvers, Inc. meets the 2nd Saturday of the month at the Granite Reef Senior Center located just north of McDowell Road on Granite Reef in Scottsdale.
The Arizona Woodcarvers Association meets the 1st and 3rd Saturdays of the month at the Pyle Center located just west of Rural Road on Southern Avenue in Tempe.
